I've been ordering from WaJeal for a very long time and I have noticed that overtime the quality of the product has deteriorated quite considerably. Today I ordered almost $90 worth of food, and everything that was sent was tasteless and either over salted or under seasoned. The chicken in garlic sauce had no flavor, the wanton soup broth was like drinking lukewarm water and the fried rice was extremely salty. The bok choy was mushy to the point that it was disintegrating when you picked it up to serve your self. Given the lack of quality, and the not so cheap prices, this is the last time I will be ordering from Wa Jeal.

I used to order from here weekly. Delivery isn't the quickest, but the food was much better (and less greasy) than the other Chinese joints in the area. What changed: the $18 delivery minimum. Really? For a Chinese restaurant? That's how you change from 4 stars to 2.

Heat varies, but the default setting can be hot! All good so far, which is pretty far, shredded tea smoked duck and wok-roasted chicken are favorites.

Food quality for their most popular dishes is good. The lunch specials tend to be greasy. Delivery is fast but the delivery man was rude and lazy -- he didn't want to bring the food up to our apt and just left it at the front desk.

Overall, the food is consistently good, delivery time is reasonable. The choice of how hot you want for food (i.e. mild, medium, hot) is great. Prices are a little high. Still don't understand why appetizers cost $10 or more. I order mostly for myself and $30-$35 per order is just far too much. I would order much more frequently from here if I could get an appetizer and a main meal, with taxes and delivery for around $25.

Pretty consistent above average Chinese. Delivery is always fast and I'm never too disappointed. The dry sauteed shrimp and multi-color whatever shrimp are gross, but the Szechuan dumplings are great, the shrimp with chili sauce is good, the General Tso's chicken is decent. Four stars because three seemed harsh for what it is.

Consistently delicious! Personal favorites include: chicken cashew, chicken broccoli, mu shu, soft noodles, and egg drop soup. Meat is always fresh. You won't be disappointed when your order arrives!

I LOVE the food from Wa Jeal. The only place that uses enough real peppercorns - what a beautiful numbing! Favorite dishes: tongue and tripe, frog legs, salt-pepper squid, ma po crispy fish and crispy tofu, and the best ma po tofu I've ever had. Really fast service and never any problems. Ask for it extra spicy or extra wa jeal, and they actually listen!

What a NIGHTMARE. Seamless confirmed 30-45 minutes for delivery. I called after 1 hour and was kept on hold for 10 minutes. Next they could not find my order and showed little interest in figuring it out. Put me back on hold and I gave up after 10 more minutes and called Seamless to cancel order. The food did show up after 2 hors and 35 minutes which I refused. IF YOU ARE HUNGARY THINK ABOUT ORDERING FROM A DIFFERENT RESTAURANT

Placed an order, waited 2 hours. Nothing came. Called the restaurant 5 times and was put on hold each time for 5+ mins until I gave up. Finally reached them, order hasn't left the restaurant yet.... Don't order your food from here if you want to eat it within 3 hours.

My favorites are Diced Fish and Tofu or the Shredded Pork. Shredded Pork is a little sweeter, if that's what you are craving.

After 45 minutes the restaurant said the order was on it's way. After over an hour the restaurant said they didn't have the order and would send it. They say it was not their fault but Seamless. Cannot ordering from this restaurant again.

great food. awful service. it clearly stated with my meal that it was brown rice. upon receiving white rice (after 1 hour) i called. the woman who answered said "that's what you ordered." after some back and forth, she agreed to send brown rice. it's been 40 minutes and still nothing...when i call back..she consistently hangs up on me.

I cannot understand why this restaurant only has 3 stars. Try the Wok-Roasted Dice Chicken (chefs menu). Only for people with high tolerance for heat, but one of my best go-to dishes on the UES.

This place used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, I went to the restaurant several times and ordered for delivery almost 3-4 times every month in the past half year. Their food always taste good. But unfortunately, I found a piece of tarmac (for paving the road) in my delivery meal yesterday. Because It doesn't make any sense to me how it happened, I'm afraid that I would have to doubt in their hygiene right now. So sad!

TINY TINY portions, I ordered the General Tso's white meat entree which I though would feed two people (the staff say the portions are family size) I literally counted 8 pieces of chicken and it costs $17!! (They charge an extra $2 if you request white meat). Decent food but not worth the cost at all. They also only have vegetable entrees so its not possible to order a side of broccoli or bok choy. General Tso, Bok Choy, and Wonton Soup equaled a $50 order.

This was my go-to Chinese place for a long time for bold spicy flavor and less-Americanized and more authentic menu...recently I don't feel well after eating their delivery, meaning GI issues - I am guessing MSG or not so fresh ingredients. Flavor wise they're not afraid to spice things up, which I like.

Instead of pine nuts and minced chicken wrap, I received canned peas,carrots and corn. Yes there was chicken and lettuce. It was horrible with the vegetables clearly out of a can.Never will order again.

This and Szechuan Kitchen (more Americanized) are the best Chinese places on the UES! Their hot & sour soup is bar far the best and I've tried them all. Every dish I've ordered has been great. I love the General Tso's Tofu and Chicken and Broccoli.

Clearly best Sichuan on the Upper East Side. But why stop there? This is one of the best Sichuan places in all Manhattan. (If you have an idea to dispute this, please post because I would love to know of equally good alternatives!) I ordered cold sliced conch appetizer, stir fried shredded beef with ho jiao and chili, and stir-fried pork w spicy capsicum. All three were excellent--the pork and conch being my favorites. Latest order update: the cold poached white meat chicken in hot oil is great! The moo-shu pork is not bad either. UPDATE: they make a great beijing duck! Wok Roasted Chili Prawns are also great. Sauteed string bean dish very good. The not-so-good: "soft noodles" (lo mein) are bland spaghetti; dumplings are just okay; beef filets w/ brocoli are just okay.

I am so happy that the chef of the now shuttered Wu Liang Ye on 86th Street moved to Wa Jeal. I never expected to have such delicious and addicting Sichuan food just a few blocks from my apartment in the UES, but now I can't live without it! Yes, the prices are higher than what you can get in Flushing/Chinatown or even midtown Sichuan (Szechuan Gourmet/Lan Sheng), but hey you're in the UES and the actual restaurant (yes I've been there a number of times) is very nice and the service is actually good. I would stay away the Americanized Chinese dishes (Sesame Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, etc) and try their specialities. My favorites are: C38. Wok-Roasted Diced Chicken with Thousand Chili, C24. Braised Cellophane Noodles with Chili-Minced Beef, C23. Chef`s Ma Paul Tofu with Chili-Minced Beef, C19. Braised Beef Filets with Napa Cabbage & Roasted Chili, A26. Dan Dan Noodles and A32. Sichuan Pork Dumpling. If you're concerned about the numbing spiciness, you can select your spiciness level when ordering. I can't wait to order from them again!

I have ordered from here frequently over the past two years (99% of my delivery orders are made from this restaurant--I sometimes order out as frequently as 3 to 4 dinners a week) and I have gone through their menu almost dish by dish. Aside from Café China, this is hands down one of the most authentic Sichuan restaurants I've been to (Grand Sichuan is nowhere close; Wu Liang Ye used to be this good before they started listening to stupid suggestions from idiots who knew zip about Chinese cuisine and went belly up) and I don't order "typical Westerner dishes" either but classic Chinese dishes I remember from my childhood living in Asia. My favorites thus far are (I'm still working through their menu): Hand-Shredded Chicken (A1), Sliced Conch (A3), Poached White Meat Chicken (A9), Shredded Tripe (A19), Mini Jelly Fish (A20), Chef's Ma Po Tofu with Chili-Minced Beef (C23), Braised Cellophane Noodles with Chili-Minced Beef (C24), Stir-Fried Shredded Pork with Dried Tofu & Yellow Chive (C41) and Sautéed Tripe with Bamboo Shoots & Pickled Mustard Greens (C42). Their other dishes which I've tried range from meh to fairly decent but they don't make as big an impact on me as much as the above list does. Delivery is under 45 minutes; usually closer to 35, sometimes as short as 25 minutes after order is processed. I've also dined there periodically and service has been impeccable: Efficient without being unctuous, just the way I like it. UPDATE: Stay away from the Camphur-Smoked Duck (C9)--tastes like you're eating duck smoked with moth repellent (nasty). Also, the Poached Beef (A6) and Sliced Beef (A8) only differ from each other by a dusting of "stuff." Very disappointing.

I don't know why this place is only 4 stars on here when so many only average other places are 5. The food was really good quality and the portions are very generous. We had General Tso, Dan Dan noodles, and spicy dumplings and all were excellent. Here's to hoping we can get this place to show up ahead of mediocre, yet strangely higher ranked, places.

The dumplings here are good, but I was so disappointed with the noodles. I got the Singapore Curry noodles once before and just got the "famous" Dan Dan noodles which apparently had 33 people like it with rave reviews. I don't know what planet these people are on and what kind of horrendous chinese food they've been having... but the noodles were horrible. All it was were noodles swimming in spicy oil and that was it. The delivery guy was also incredibly rude. Based on the reviews, I keep giving this place a chance, but having a minimum of $18 for delivery of subpar food is unacceptable. Not ordering from this place again.

Why does this place have such excellent reviews? I ordered dinner from here last night, and was extremely disappointed. I ordered vegetable spring rolls, hot and sour soup, and steamed vegetable dumplings. The spring rolls were edible, but extremely mediocre. They had no flavor and seemed to just be stuffed with only shredded cabbage. The hot and sour soup was okay, but very very spicy. The dumplings however, were inedible. They were soggy, tasted really doughy and they vegetables inside of them tasted disgusting. I ate the spring rolls, but threw away 2/3rds of the soup and all of the dumplings. This was such a waste of 18 dollars and I don't know why this place is so highly recommended! I will never order from here again.

Since they've opened, I've been a huge fan and supporter of Wa Jeal. Their food is, for the most part, excellent. Why, then, the bad write up? Last night I got delivery (as I frequently had in the past). When I opened the dish, there was a pile of Szechuan peppers and a distinct smell of soap. The soapy taste came from one of the ingredients (in chunks large enough to suggest they should be packaged by Kiehls); the pepper quantity was enough to put down a democratic uprising. Oh, there were a few shrimp in there, too. I called the restaurant, explaining that the dish was inedible. The woman said, "That's what you ordered. That's how it comes." To which I replied, "Really?" So, go there for some really great food. Or the occasional inedible biological weapon which you will be stuck with because: "That's what you ordered. That's how it comes." Needless to say, there are other options in the neighborhood — some even know the how to treat loyal / repeat customers.

The delivery time was very quick and the food was steaming. Everything is fresh and made exactly to order, and tastes amazing. The Kung Po prawns are a staple of every order, and the steamed chicken is not tasteless whatsoever.

I got steamed pork dumplings and the general tso's chicken. Both wound up being surprisingly spicy, but I enjoyed it anyway. Pretty good considering all other Chinese delivery I've had on the Upper East Side has been mediocre.

Haave now ordered three times from here. Far removed form the generic brown gloop of many Chinese restaurants, the dishes were individually and distinctivley flavoured, steamed food had impeccable ingredients and very good flavours, the SIngapore Noodles spicy and complex. Very good for delivery cooking, would have been more than acceptable quality if served in a restaurant.

Food is fresh and tasty -- but delivery is disappointingly slow waited nearly an HOUR on at least two occasions). If you're ravenous, prepare to wait and wait. But the food is worth waiting for (if you don't pass out first from the wait).

I have had them twice.. The first I had some spicy chicken dish that was great.. If you like spice and flavor you will love Wa Jeal. Second time I had the brisket beef noodle soup. I have been on the hunt for a good noodle soup dish with meat in the UES, and this is the best so far. It is hearty, with tasty and well cooked noodles (not mushy and not hard, but just right), with a flavorful broth and super tender beef.. This is the one!

This is BY FAR the best Chinese food on the Upper East Side .. or even in NYC. I have ordered take-out from here twice and eaten in the restaurant once. All of their dishes have a great depth of flavor (and spice!). They take great pride in their food. If you don't believe me, order something as typical as the General Tso's Chicken, and prepare to be amazed.

Food arrived 2 hours and 20 minutes after ordering. Each time we rang to ask where it was they said it was 'enroute' when we finally spoke to the manager it turns out it wasn't even out of the kitchen. Then they forgot part of it and it was completely cold. Rang back and complained. Will NEVER order from here again.

Wow. This is like the authentic Sichuan food I grew up with, and haven't been able to find in the sea of Cantonese restaurants in New York. First time I haven't had to ask for a dish to be spicy! Terrific, and very good prices. We've only ordered a few times, but so far haven't found the slow service people have complained about.

though, service was fast and derlivery person was polite, the food ended as one of the worst chinese restaurants i've eaten from. sesame chicken tasted like it had some sort of orange flavor and the general tso's wasnt very edible either. egg drop soup was decent, but overall i would not order here again.

If you're looking for boring old Chinese take-out, this isn't the place for you. This is an actual Sichuan Restaurant! Instead of ordering the Sesame Chicken, try one of their amazing authentic dishes like the Braised Beef Filets W/ Napa Cabbage & Roasted Chili (they'll make it with chicken too!), the Wok Roasted Diced Chicken W/Thousand Chili, or my favorite, the Wok Roasted Chili Prawns (best Chinese dish I have ever tasted)! They use Wa Jeal (Chinese peppercorns) in many of their dishes which gives them a unique flavor that sets the restaurant apart from other places on the UES!

The General Tso is really good but you have to make sure to ask for white meat or they will give you dark meat. I also ordered the scallion pancakes, but I've definitely had better. And the soft noodles were very good, unlike most places which serve it very greasy.

I've only ordered here once--the Wok Seared Filet Mignon. The Filet Mignon was extremely rubbery, soft and soggy. I'm not THAT picky of an eater--but I had to throw this out.

Food is good, delivery time not so much. An hour and ten minutes for chinese!! Come on....

Great food and variety at a price point slightly lower than Grand Sichuan on 55th. Their selection is smaller but they execute some of the dishes better than Grand Sichuan does.
